Protecting Chicago's title as the “Greenest City in the World”

Chicago: A city that dyes its river green, hosts three Irish parades and celebrates St. Patrick’s Day like no other. Clearly committed to showcasing its strong Irish influence, it’s no wonder we are the “GREENest City in the World.” The ShamROCK Chicago protects the city’s title as the “Greenest City in the World” by lighting up Chicago for St. Patrick’s Day. The week leading up to Saint Patrick’s Day, iconic buildings, monuments and streets in the City of Chicago are lit up green.

Turning an idea into a tradition

Celtic Chicago CEO, Marlene Byrne, imagined the Shamrock Chicago initiatives with her collective team of advertising professionals. Comprised of public relations, social, event management, creative, and digital efforts, the first ever Shamrock Chicago launched in 2012. The overwhelming embracement of the initiative from local Chicagoans and businesses propelled the initiative to where it is today – a tradition. Shamrock Chicago has been mentioned on Choose Chicago, Country Living, NBC Chicago, and Buzzfeed.
